Debrina was born and raised in a small town in New Jersey. Dancing, singing, and the performing arts were a major part of her childhood and teenage years. During her college years, she realized how much joy and fulfillment she received by helping and being surrounded by children. It has always been a privilege and honor to her to be able to nurture, teach, and help children reach their highest potential.
Debrina obtained a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and teaching certifications in early childhood education and elementary education from Rutgers University in 1988. Shortly afterward, she moved to Virginia, obtained a teaching position in Virginia Beach, and received a Master’s degree in education from Regent University. During her 12-year teaching career she was involved in many after school programs, clubs, and committees serving such roles as an Adopt-A-School partner program coordinator and Multi-Cultural Club chairperson. Always longing to have a family of her own, Debrina felt blessed to marry “the man of her dreams,” Rodger, in 1999 and later have two beautiful children, Quinton, now age 7, and Ciera, age 5.
Although she stopped teaching to become a stay-at-home mom, she continued to “stay connected” with other children by serving as the director of children’s ministry at her former church. She enjoyed this position for several years before it eventually allowed her path to cross with New Life Providence’s children’s pastor, Cheryl Muniz. Debrina became a part-time staff member in the children’s ministry department in July, 2007.
One of the things Debrina absolutely loves about being involved with New Life Providence Church is our mission and vision to be “transethnic.” Because she’s a “Jersey girl” who grew up next to the world’s largest melting pot, being around different cultures and ethnic backgrounds is natural for her. “I love the fact that we can all worship and serve the Lord together here, and being surrounded by the diversity reminds me of home!” she says.
Debrina enjoys traveling, entertaining, and most of all spending time with her family.
