In February 2001, Cheryl and her husband Nic, participated in a New Life International missions trip to Israel. Although they were not yet part of the New Life family, they had traveled to a number of other nations with previous New Life teams. However, this Israel trip was pivotal, because soon after arriving home they received an invitation from Pastor Dan Backens to come serve the New Life Providence congregation as children’s pastors.

Cheryl has been in full time children’s ministry since 1988 when she began developing the children’s ministry at a large Assembly of God church in Missoula, Montana. She and her husband of 36 years raised their two children in the beautiful mountains of Montana. After 13 years at Christian Life Center, they came to Providence to partner with parents in raising their children to know & love the Lord. 

This couple brings a wealth of ministry experience and gifts which makes them particularly effective in children’s ministry. Cheryl administrates a volunteer staff of 180 individuals. She works hard to know every child’s name and, most of the time, their parents. Nic faithfully teaches the second service children’s church class. It’s not unusual to see him preaching to 80-100 1st -6th grade boys and girls and making the truths of God’s Word come alive for them. 

Pastor Cheryl also serves as director of Kids Hope USA. This is an international mentoring program that targets a specific elementary school that is considered "at-risk."  In its 10th year in Chesapeake, there are currently 60 faithful mentors making a difference in the lives of children at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School.

Now the Muniz's find themselves at a new exciting stage in life, living and serving the Lord near the ocean; doing children’s ministries around the world each year; and being Gramma and Poppa to three adorable little boys! Life can’t get much better than this!
