In pursuit of God’s ultimate
plan, Dan Backens and his family moved from the Black Hills of South Dakota to Chesapeake, Virginia in 1994, after pastoring for 12 years in his hometown of Spearfish.
Pastor Dan became senior pastor for New Life
at Greenbrier in January 1996 while finishing his masters degree in theology at Regent University. New Life was a rapidly growing multi-site church and Pastor Dan was asked to lead one of the church sites.
Seasoned with over
twenty-five years of pastoral experience, Pastor Dan brings a broad background to his position, the staff, and the church body.
He was bi-vocational for a number of years in his early ministry, teaching high
school mathematics, coaching football, working as a college
instructor, and serving as a Christian school principal. "I
have always found fulfillment and effectiveness leading people
toward Christ whether in church or in the marketplace," shares Pastor Dan. "The pastoral
ministry has been a fit for my gifts, my sense of direction,
and my personal passion."
Citing his marriage of twenty-nine
years and three children as "the most accurate test of the authenticity
of ministry," Pastor Dan loves spending time with
the family more than anything... thankfully they enjoy watching
the Pittsburgh Steelers too.
