Raymond Smith joined the New Life Providence staff in 2006, assisting Nic Muniz part-time in the care of our facilities. He has been attending Providence since 1994, about a year before moving into our current building.
One of five boys, Raymond was born in Baltimore and moved to this area when he was four years old. A graduate of East Suffolk High School, he attended Norfolk State for two years and also took classes at TCC and ODU.
Retired from his 15-year position as an electrician at the Newport News Shipyard, Raymond was previously an electronics technician for 20 years at General Electric in Portsmouth, where he assembled color televisions.
Raymond thinks his 3-hour-a-day schedule at the church is perfect for this time in his life. He also loves woodworking, working on his computer, and talking with people about God. “I’m not religious,” he says, “just a follower of Christ. I want others to know how they can have that relationship, too.”
He is married to Deloris, and has three grown children and three grandchildren.
